Mon. 6/11 - Thurs. 6/14 - Finals week!  Author study presentations.

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: See me, immediately!, to find out if you can make up the author study presentations.  And, make sure to get me your author study project ASAP.

HW: Have a great summer - and read, read, read!! 

Thurs. 6/7 and Fri. 6/8 - To start class, we worked on organizing your portfolios, filling out quarterly progree and year end rubrics for IRP, finished reading logs up, collected books that you had out, and filled out a year-end survey. In the remaining time, you worked on author studies in preparation for them being due in LESS THAN A WEEK!

Mon. 6/4 through Wednesday 6/6 - For these days, after first viewing a sample powerpoint author study created by Mr. M, we continued working on author studies until the end of the period.

Thurs. 5/31 (A day) and Fri. 6/1(B day) - Again, we jumped right into a work day, finishing off RTLs if need be and then working on author study projects until the end of class.

Tues. 5/29 (A day) and Wed. 5/30 (B day) - Today, we jumped right into RTL work, getting laptops and churning out a paper. In any extra time, we worked on author studies.

For classes 5/10 - 5/25

Thurs. 5/24 (A day) and Fri. 5/25 (B day) - After IRP (in periods 2 and 3), we went directly into the Julius Caesar movie, watching acts 3 - 5, finishing the play and movie.  We stopped and filled out questions as we went regarding the important parts of acts 4-5.  In the remaining time, we discussed the upcoming RTL and worked on the organizer as a class.

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: See me to take out a book to read acts 4-5, or to watch the movie, so that you may fill out the questions.  Download the RTL organizer below if you need it.

HW: RTl work next class - get the organizer done if you need it.  Author study is coming! 

Wed. 5/23 (B day) - Today was a vocab day, and after IRP we played Pictcharabulary for review, then we took the quiz for unit 13 and checked the homework. In the remaining time, we either listened to a sweet Caesar rap or worked on author study.

Tues. 5/22 (A day) - After IRP, we quickly talked about the upcoming weeks' schedule. Then, we finished act 3 of Caesar along with the reading guide, listened to a sweet rap that summarized the play, and watched a bit of the movie.

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: Make up IRP and show me. Read through act 3 in the play and fill out the RG, or get the notes from myself or a friend.

HW: Author study!

Mon. 5/21 (B day) - After IRP, we worked on vocab for 20 minutes, giving you some time to complete the exercises for unit 13 (the last unit!) and to remind you that vocab is due next time. Then, after looking at the upcoming weeks' schedule, we continued reading Caesar, finishing act 3 and working on completing the accompanying reading guide.

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: Make up IRP and show me. Find a way to read through act 3 in the play (get a book from me, go online at the link found a ways below); fill out the reading guide questions after reading.

HW: Vocab due Wednesday, unit 13. Also - author study!!!

Fri. 5/18 (A day) - After an extended IRP time (to give some people extra author study time), we continued our reading of Caesar, acting out the assassination scene and filling out the reading guide as we went.

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: Make up the IRP time and show me; check with a friend to get the reading guide notes and to see where we left off.

Thurs. 5/17 (B day) - After IRP, we read a bit of Caesar in periods 5 and 7, acting out the death scene and filling out some of the act 3 reading guide. In period 6, after IRP we completed the act 2 reading guide.

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: Per. 5 - Read through page 111; get the reading guide notes from a friend. Per. 6 - finish the act 2 reading guide. Per. 7 - Read through page 125, get the reading guide notes from a friend.

Wed. 5/16 (A day) - Today was a vocab day with a shortened schedule for pers. 2 and 4. In 2 and 4, we played Pictcharabulary for review, then we took the quiz for unit 12 and checked the homework. In the remaining time for all classes, we did IRP.

Tues. 5/15 (B day) - Instead of the C.O.W. abbreviated schedule, we had a full day today, which we used to its' utmost capacity. We started with Eng. Mech. (SAT practice!), then went on to journal and have an extended IRP time to accomodate author study help. Following this, we completed any outstanding reading guides and then worked on author study "stuff," such as the biography for the author and book information. In any remaining time, you read more for author study, conferenced on books you needed to, or worked on make-up work.

Mon. 5/14 (A day) - After IRP, we went over 5 words from unit 13 and then worked on unit 13 for 20 minutes. In period 3, in the extra time we worked on finishing up act 2 reading guides as welll as author study components (biography and book information).

Thurs. 5/10 (A day) and Fri. 5/1 (B day) - During English mechanics, we again practiced SAT problems, looking at how to best figure out some sentence completion problems. If you can narrow it down, take a guess! After this, we journalled (free prompt), then went into IRP. After IRP we talked about the vocab 5, words from the upcoming unit 13, and then got into Caesar, finishing Act 2 (if we hadn't already) and watching the movie through Act 2, finishing up the reading guide for the act as we went.

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: Finish Act 2 if you haven't already. Make up IRP time and show me. See me to watch the movie and get the RG notes.

For classes 4/23 - 5/9

Wed. 5/9 - B Day - Today was a vocab day. After IRP, we played Pictcharabulary for review, then we took the quiz for unit 12 and checked the homework. In the remaining time, we worked on the new unit.

Mon. 5/7 and Tues. 5/8 - After IRP, we went over 5 words from the upcoming vocab unit and, on B days, worked on vocab for 20 minutes. Then, in all periods we continued our reading of Caesar, filling out the reading guides as we went.

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: Go to the link below and read through the following acts/scenes for the play - per. 5 - Act 2 scene 2; per. 6 finish - act 1; per. 7 - finish act 2; per. 2 finish act 2; per. 3 finish act 2; per. 4 pages 48 - 87. Get the reading guide notes from a friend or answer them on your own.

HW: B days - vocab due Wednesday, unit 12. All classes - RTLs are late - get them in!

5/3 and 5/4 - Today, we worked on English Mechanics (SAT Practice - improving sentences) and then journaled (Manny the mannequin - what is the story behind his pose?) before IRP. Following this, we discussed the author study rubric in detail, then went on, in periods 2,3,5,6, and 7, to read Caesar and filled out the reading guide as we went.

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: Make up IRP time and show me evidence of this. Get an author study rubric from me and, either from myself or a friend, get the details of what is expected of you. In Caesar, read through pages: 81 in period 2, 67 in period 3, 77 in period 5, 53 in period 6, and 87 in period 7 - see me for a book or go to the website below to read. For the reading guide notes, see me or a friend.

HW: None - IF your RTL and MG projects are passed in. If not, get them in ASAP!

5/2 - Today was a vocab day. After IRP, we played Pictcharabulary for review, then we took the quiz for unit 12 and checked the homework. In the remaining time, we worked on the new unit.

4/30 and 5/1 - After IRP, we quickly went over 5 words from the upcoming vocab unit, then A days worked on said unit for roughly 20 minutes. Following these, we filled out some more of the Caesar reading guide and continued reading, filling out the guide as we went.

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: Make up IRP time and show me proof of this; see a friend's reading guide to get what you missed. Read through ACT 1 in Caesar at http://nfs.sparknotes.com/juliuscaesar/. Navigate the pages to read through the act.

HW: A days vocab for unit 12 is due Wednesday. RTLs are due Thurs. for B days, Fri. for A days.

4/26 and 4/27 - We started out with IRP, then went over 5 words from our upcoming vocab unit. Following this, we discussed some of the themes in our upcoming reading of Julius Caesar by voting with our feet and debating; then, we got the reading guide for the history and Act 1 of the play and filled out the history and some of the start of Act 1. Following this, we assigned characters and starting reading the play, discussing and filling out the reading guide as we went.

4/25 - Today was a vocab day. After IRP, we played Pictcharabulary for review, then we took the quiz for unit 11 and checked the homework. In the remaining time, we worked on the new unit.

4/23 and 4/24 - We started class by briefly going over "The Vocab 5," discussing 5 words from the upcoming vocab unit. We then talked about the RTLs, and the writing center extra credit opportunity, and proceeded to get laptops and work on RTLs until the end of class.

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: See me to get a RTL rubric and organizer, if needed. Work on RTLs.

HW: For B days, vocab is due Wednesday, unit 11. Also, RTLs due next Thurs for B days, Fri for A days - the extended time is so you may take advantage of the extra credit opportunity by visiting the writing center.

For classes 4/2 - 4/12

4/12 -  Today was very similar to Tuesday.  During Eng. Mechanics we worked more on practicing "Improving Sentences" SAT problems.  After this, we did a free journal entry and went into IRP.  Then, because B days are still 1 class ahead of A days, we had work time to do various things - RTL organizers and RTL work, finishing up author study bio sheets and starting the bio, vocab work, multi-genre project work, book reviews on this site, IRP, etc...

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: Make-up the IRP time and show me evidence of this.

HW:  Keep reading - try to finish at least 1 book over vacation!

4/11 - Today was a vocab day. After IRP, we played Pictcharabulary for review, then we took the quiz for unit 11 and checked the homework. In the remaining time, we worked on the new unit.

4/6, 4/9 - After IRP, we shared our multi-genre projects as a class. Then, after collecting the projects, we filled out a worksheet for your 4th quarter IRP goals. In periods 2,3, and 4, we worked on vocab for a bit. Then, in all periods we got laptops and worked on the author study bio, filling out a workseet to help you gather information.

For classes 3/12 - 3/30

3/29 and 3/30 - For Eng. Mech. we again worked on putting simple sentences into first compound and then complex form.  After this, we read an article about sleep deprivation and wrote about the author's purpose and our thoughts on the issue.  Following IRP, we continued working on the multi-genre projects until the end of class.

TO DO IF YOU MISSED: Make up the IRP time and show me evidence of this.  Work on your multi-genre projects.  

HW: Get in anything you owe by Friday.  Multi-genre projects are due on Thursday of next week for A days, Friday of next week for B days. 

3/28 - Today was a vocab day. After IRP, in periods 3 and 4 we played a new vocab review game called "Pictcharabulry." Then, we took the quiz for unit 10 and checked the homework. In the remaining time, we worked on the new unit.

3/26 and 3/27 - During IRP, I conferenced individually with you to determine your quarterly progress grade. Then, after handing in the take-home tests and talking about the Top Pop essay contest, we continued working on your multi-genre projects until the end of class.

3/22 and 3/23 - After Eng. Mechanics (Compound/complex sentence practice) and Eng. Mechanics part 2 (SAT sentence completion practice), we went into IRP. Following this, we went into the assigning, discussing, and modelling of our multi-genre project. We then worked on them until the end of class.

3/19 - 3/20 - After IRP, we went into a brief Eng. Mechanics lesson where we further discussed sentence completion strategies and practiced them. Then, after getting the take-home tests, we briefly discussed these and addressed any questions we had. Following this, we watched the Cyrano movie until the end of the period. In any leftover time, we worked on starting our take-home tests.

3/15 - Forgoing Eng. Mech. today, we went directly into IRP. We then continued watching the movie version of Cyrano, discussing as we watched.

3/14 -Today was a vocab day. After IRP, we played "Say What?" for review then took the quiz for unit 9 and checked the homework.

3/13 - After more work on complex sentences during Eng. Mech., we went into IRP. Following this, we went into finishing up Cyrano and filling out "Sum The C and Q." We finished off the class by starting the movie. In period 7, we went directly into the movie (we were already done with the play!).

Following this, we took some time to work on vocab, then in period 2 went into finishing up "Sum The C and Q," followed by starting the movie version of the play. In period 3 and 4, after IRP we continued reading Cyrano and filled out "Sum The C and Q" in period 3, leaving it until next class in period 4.
