Today, we're going to switch gears a little and take a class to think about some of the big issues that surround us.
The link below will take you to a site created by the Arlington Institute, a group that focuses on getting the word out about some of the large issues throughout the world. There are 5 issues on the site which they think are the 5 biggest that currently face us. For each issue, a brief bit of info details what the issue is, and more information can be found through the site.
What you need to do is to visit the site, check out the 5 big problems, and pick one that you feel most strongly about. Then, open a Google document or Word document and type an essay that covers three things - 1) What is the problem - what is the "big deal"? 2) Why did you choose this issue to write about, and why do you think it is an important issue to focus on? 3) What are some ways that we - as a world population, as a country, as a school, as a person - can help fix the problem?
This essay should be finished by the end of class. If not, you may get it in to me at the beginning of next class, although depending on how well you used class time to write the essay (based on the sub's report), you may lose points for turning it in late.
